UK's Stay at #1 Short Lived

You know what happens when you wait more than a day to post a celebratory "We're number 1" post? You miss the opportunity. The fans saw this one coming a mile away. The talking heads saw it coming. Everyone saw it coming. Just not tonight.

The lethargic attitude that this team approaches games with finally bit them in the a$$. Say what you want about bad calls, unlucky bounces, etc., UK lost this game for 1 reason. South Carolina wanted it more. A lot more.

That crash you just heard was every UK fan returning to earth after tonight's 68-62 loss to the South Carolina Devan Downeys. A quick run through the numbers show that Downey went for 30 points on 29 shots. Wall ended up with 19, 8 of which came with under 2 minutes to go. Thanks for showing up for 2 minutes John. You really deserve all of that priase you are getting! Patterson went for 5 points on 4 shots. Anyone that thinks Patrick Patterson is an All-American or a lotery pick at this time is kidding themselves. He doesn't demand the ball. He doesn't make his presence known. He takes a back seat when he should be driving. Bledsoe had 5 turnovers.. which most likely lowers his average. One silver lining of the game was the STELLAR play of DeMarcus Cousins. Boogie went for 27 and 12 with 3 blocks and was the only player on UK's team that seemed to give a sh*t all night.

The numbers are really irrelevant though. USC wanted it more, and Downey was the best player on the court, and the little things that UK has done in games throughout the year that had the fans sitting very uneasy finally caught up to them. The good news? UK is still 19-1 and the world is not coming to an end. This team has problems sure, but will be there come tournament time.

Congrats to USC on a very deserving win, and for the Cats can we just get back to basketball please? It seems basketball is about priority number 4 for this team right now. No more magazine covers. No more calls with the president. No more YouTube videos. Just go out and win.

Cal you wanted to see what your team would do with the number 1 ranking and you found out. Now go work your magic.
